Even though we love the convenience of having snacks close at hand, proper storage is essential. Especially for long road trips, gluten-free snacks must remain fresh, safe, and delicious! I always start by packing my food coolers and ice packs to keep perishable items at a safe temperature.

We like using a large chest cooler, which we keep in the back of our vehicle. It’s great for food that needs refrigeration – all we have to do is add ice packs. The cooler is lightweight, and its wheels make it easy to move around.

In the front of the vehicle, we keep a smaller cooler or insulated lunch bag. It’s usually full of drinks and snacks that we plan on eating within a few hours.

It’s also important to use airtight containers to maintain freshness and prevent contamination when packing food like cheeses and meats. Small containers are great for spreads like almond butter and peanut butter.

Zip-lock bags are also great for storing things like pickles, crackers, and trail mix.
